Life Happens

Unfortunately, I have not been able to progress to day 3 yet. School, work, and a prior engagement this weekend have set me back a little bit. I am not going to let it bother me, life happens and we must all adapt. The best laid plans of mice and men..... right?

I have class from 8-11 on Monday so afterwards I am hoping to begin the process of packing everything up. I was thinking about it and I don't expect it will take more than 4 hours, but we will see. I have been wrong before.

The Plan

Today I wrote down the 21 day plan on my calendar. If all  goes well I will be on my way to a brand new lifestyle by the 24th but if it takes a little longer that is okay also, life happens. As I looked at the third day, which is packing, I realized I had WAY to much stuff. So I kind of skipped ahead to days 11, 12, and 13 so I would not be as overwhelmed tomorrow.... a sort of preliminary round.

I cleaned out an entire closet and realized I didn't need or use anything that was in it, it was an eye opening experience. I already feel much better and I have only just begun.

One of my 'musts' is I must run an ultra-marathon. I have wanted to run an ultra-marathon for the past couple of years, but I have never fully committed myself. Mostly due to distractions and the fact that I can be very fickle. Being fickle coupled with the ability to instantaneously get information on the internet, creates a situation in which I never end up doing anything because I want to do everything.

That ends today. Today is a 2 mile run -- don't judge me, I have been lazy

The Must List

An hour ago I ran across a site called The Minimalists. After reading about Joshua and Ryan's journey towards living a minimalist lifestyle I realized I needed a change in my life also. The "should list" is what stood out to me the most, I constantly find myself saying I should read more, I should get back in shape, I should run an ultra-marathon, I should stop procrastinating, and so on. When I get older I do not want to look back on my life with regret and think about all of the things I should of done, but never did.

Today is the first step in my journey to take my life back from all of the distractions that keep me from my passions and goals. Its 2:29 AM right now so today is going to be day 1 and 2 of the 21 day plan, but that's alright.... I've never been one for plans anyway.

Step 1 - The Must List

(And I did copy some of the "musts" from the site because many applied to my life as well. Besides copying greatness leads to greatness)

  1. I must live a healthy life everyday
  2. I must eat healthy food at every meal
  3. I must achieve my goal of running an ultra-marathon
  4. I must stop procrastinating
  5. I must build impactful, loving relationships everyday
  6. I must contribute to others in a meaningful way everyday
  7. I must grow as an individual everyday
  8. I must work towards my goals everyday
  9. I must remember that relationships matter above all else
  10. I must learn something everyday
  11. I must read everyday
  12. I must manage my time more efficiently
  13. I must write everyday
  14. I must grow in my faith everyday
  15. I must learn to love my enemies
  16. I must be passionate everyday
  17. I must listen to music everyday
  18. I must place others before myself
  19. I must stop spending money
  20. I must get out of debt
  21. I must get A's and B's in college
  22. I must channel my competitive drive away from the people closest to me
  23. I must learn to play the guitar again.
*** I will be updating this list as I come up with more 'musts'.
