An hour ago I ran across a site called The Minimalists. After reading about Joshua and Ryan's journey towards living a minimalist lifestyle I realized I needed a change in my life also. The "should list" is what stood out to me the most, I constantly find myself saying I should read more, I should get back in shape, I should run an ultra-marathon, I should stop procrastinating, and so on. When I get older I do not want to look back on my life with regret and think about all of the things I should of done, but never did.
Today is the first step in my journey to take my life back from all of the distractions that keep me from my passions and goals. Its 2:29 AM right now so today is going to be day 1 and 2 of the 21 day plan, but that's alright.... I've never been one for plans anyway.
Step 1 - The Must List
(And I did copy some of the "musts" from the site because many applied to my life as well. Besides copying greatness leads to greatness)
- I must live a healthy life everyday
- I must eat healthy food at every meal
- I must achieve my goal of running an ultra-marathon
- I must stop procrastinating
- I must build impactful, loving relationships everyday
- I must contribute to others in a meaningful way everyday
- I must grow as an individual everyday
- I must work towards my goals everyday
- I must remember that relationships matter above all else
- I must learn something everyday
- I must read everyday
- I must manage my time more efficiently
- I must write everyday
- I must grow in my faith everyday
- I must learn to love my enemies
- I must be passionate everyday
- I must listen to music everyday
- I must place others before myself
- I must stop spending money
- I must get out of debt
- I must get A's and B's in college
- I must channel my competitive drive away from the people closest to me
- I must learn to play the guitar again.
